Longtime Niskayuna residents Andrea and David Golub also have been longtime friends to Northeast Ballet.

Since the 1990s, the Golubs have given company dancers pointe shoes – a type of shoe worn by ballet performers.

David Golub said the project ensures Nutcracker dancers – in lead roles and members of the variations dance routines – have excellent equipment for performances. He just asks that dancers somehow “pay it forward” and return the favor should they ever receive opportunities to help the arts.

The Golubs have purchased about 800 pairs of pointe shoes over the years.

Andrea Golub loves the tradition. “This is a small thing we can do for all the work they put in,” she said.
