Special election set for Oct. 10 to fill vacant school board seat

To fill the spot left vacant when Pat Lanotte resigned in July for personal reasons, the Niskayuna Central School District Board of Education will hold a special election on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Nominating petitions are now available for residents who are interested in running for the position. The winner of October’s election will serve the remainder of Lanotte’s term, which goes through June 30, 2019.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, be qualified to vote in the school district and have lived in the district continuously for at least one year as of Oct. 10.

Interested candidates may pick up a petition from the district clerk between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the district offices at 1239 Van Antwerp Road. Petitions must be returned with 44 qualified signatures by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.
