NISKAYUNA — Local author Tom Swyers is about to be published for the second time, this time by Amazon.

In March, Swyers submitted his novel “The Killdeer Connection” for publication on Kindle Scout, an ongoing, reader-driven contest.

Potential books are posted, and anyone with an Amazon account can nominate the book for publication.

If the book receives enough nominations, it will be published electronically and the author will receive an advance and royalties as well as have his or her book marketed by Amazon.

On April 11, Swyers received an email from Kindle Scout notifying him that his book had been selected.

“I was thrilled,” said Swyers. “Kindle Scout is a very, very competitive program. Only 2 [percent] or 3 percent of the books submitted are selected.”

According to Swyers’ own data, his book was nominated by local residents and neighbors and by people as far away as Brazil and Australia. The book received more than 8,000 page views and according to Kindle Scout metrics was “hot and trending” for all but four days during the 30-day campaign.
