NISKAYUNA — Eastern Mountain Sports has listed its Mohawk Commons location among more than two dozen stores that are slated to close as it seeks Chapter 11 protection.

EMS is owned by Eastern Outfitters LLC, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in early February in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The Mohawk Commons location employs eight, and a store manager said Tuesday those employees were aware of the potential closing, though they had not been given an exact closing date.

The outdoor clothing and supplies retailer opened in Niskayuna in October 2003, following the redevelopment of the then-defunct Mohawk Mall property.

According to the bankruptcy filing, Eastern Outfitters has between $100 million and $500 million in assets and $100 million to $500 million in liabilities.

Calls to EMS corporate headquarters and property owner DLC Management Corp. were not immediately returned Tuesday.

According to court documents, neither the Stuyvesant Plaza EMS nor the Saratoga Springs store are on the chopping block at this time.
