Love, drama, mystery and music will rule the Niskayuna High School auditorium this weekend as the music department presents Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera.
Featuring around 30 actors on stage, 30 student-musicians in the orchestra and 40 stage crew responsible for props, makeup, lighting, costumes and more, this year’s musical is one in a long line of ambitious undertakings.
“We didn’t see this show as a risk,” said Eric Hughes, acting director for music education. “We’ve taken on big productions before like CATS and Les Miserables. We choose musicals that fit the great talent we have.”
The planning process began nearly four months ago with all the work culminating in four shows including an afternoon matinee. Reserved tickets are recommended and may be purchased at the box office March 3 from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Walk-up sales will be available one hour prior to each show; ticket availability may vary.
