NISKAYUNA- The Girl Scouts of Niskayuna are hoping to collect 400 items of canned food by January 11 to build a structure out of and donate to Capital District food pantries.
They are looking for standard sized cans (14.5 oz) in seven different colors to complete the structure they’ve designed.
Here are the colored cans they need (in order from greatest need to least): yellow (such as kidney beans, chick peas, bread crumbs), green (such as leaf spinach, green beans, peas), dark orange (such as Hormel’s corned beef hash), light orange (such as Pearl’s sliced olives) , purple (such as grape jam), brown (such as baked beans, sloppy joe mix) and red (such as tomato sauce).
Donate the goods at Town Hall before January 11 or contact organizer Jennifer Paperman, at email@example.com.
The Girl Scouts will bring all the donations to the Empire State Plaza in Albany on January 14 to build the structure. They will build the structure, along with other Girl Scout troops across the Capital Region, between 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is invited to attend and watch the Scouts’ progress.
The structures will be on display until Monday, January 16. The structure will then be taken down and donated to various food pantries.
