Niskayuna girls’ swimming captures Section II Div. 1 championship

— Niskayuna won the Section II girls’ swimming Division 1 championship Saturday at Shenendehowa High School.

Maggie Wyngowski led the way for the Silver Warriors. She won two individual events. Wyngowski captured the 200 individual medley in 2:05.72 and the 100 backstroke in 57.10. She anchored the 400 free relay that won with a time of 3:38.13.

Burnt Hills/Scotia’s Olivia Jack was also a double individual champion. Jack won the 100 freestyle (50.57) and the 100 breast stroke (1:01.61). She anchored the 200 medley relay to a victory in 1:48.82.

Shaker’s Emma McElrath won two races, as well. She took the 200 free (1:53.09) and 500 free (5:00.39.)

Mia Cote of Glens Falls set a Shenendehowa pool record and earned All-American consideration with a winning 55.59 in the 100 butterfly.

Sarah Herbold and Colleen Quaglia of team champion Albany Academy both notched three wins. Herbold placed first in the 200 free (1:52.51) and 500 free (5:01.71), Quaglia placed first in the 200 IM (2:07.92) and 100 back (57.16), and both seniors helped the Bears cop the 200 free relay (1:39.35)

Mary Kate Conway of Mohonasen/Schalmont won the 100 free (53.05) and swam on two triumphant relays.
