SOUTH GLENS FALLS — With a 19-15 win against South Glens Falls, the Niskayuna football team broke an eight-game losing streak.

Jake Shephard led the way Friday for Niskayuna, as the senior quarterback threw for 227 yards and rushed for 102. Shephard had two touchdown passes and also rushed for a score.

Jared Houghtaling was Shephard’s main target on the night, as the senior corralled three passes for 112 yards and two scores.

Niskayuna trailed 7-6 heading into the fourth quarter, before it took a lead on Houghtaling’s first touchdown. Then, after a South Glens Falls score put the Bulldogs back in front, a 5-yard touchdown pass from Shephard to Houghtaling with 35 seconds left provided the winning score for Niskayuna.

The win was the first for Niskayuna since its season-ending victory against Albany in 2013. The gap between that win and this season’s streak-breaker was 682 days.

Niskayuna is now 1-1 on the 2015 season.
