NISKAYUNA — When Schenectady County workers repave Upper Union Street in 2016, the town of Niskayuna plans to pair up for even greater improvements.

On June 23, the Town Board was set to vote to approve a $125,000 state and municipal grant for improvements to the street that will improve mobility for pedestrians and nonmotorized vehicles. Shrubs, trees, benches, and more attractive bus stops will also spring up alongside the freshly rolled blacktop.

Town Supervisor Joe Landry said he hoped the grant money would benefit businesses and local residents. The town has already begun to work with Synthesis LLP, an architectural firm that also designed State Street streetscape improvements in downtown Schenectady.
