Longtime Niskayuna/Schenectady hockey coach Todd Templeton died this morning in his home in Glenville, according to close friend Mike Caruso.

Templeton was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in August 2014. He had retired as coach of the high school hockey team after the 2012-13 season. He had been with the program since the early 1990s.

“Todd’s philosophy about his student athletes was that, A, your famiy comes first. Family issues were always a main focus for him,” said Caruso, whose son Chris played for Templeton from 1999-2002. “He wanted to make sure all his athletes and staff had good family life and focused on school work.”
