NISKAYUNA — A Rotterdam driver hit a pedestrian on State Street Saturday evening and left the scene, police said.
The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and possible concussion, police said.
Rotterdam police located the alleged driver, Francis Konopka, 65, of Van Cortland Street. He was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a misdemeanor. He was also issued tickets for failure to use designated lane, driving an uninspected vehicle and failure to notify DMV of a change in address.
The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. near the Mavis Tire on State Street, police said. The pedestrian was crossing mid-block and was struck in the center lane, police spokesman Deputy Chief Michael Stevens said.
The driver appeared to be readying to turn left onto Balltown Road at the time. He later told police that he knew he’d hit something, but didn’t believe it was a person, Stevens said.
The victim, 22, was taken to the hospital with the non-life-threatening injuries. His condition Monday was unclear.
