SCHENECTADY — Union senior goalie and Niskayuna native Colin Stevens helped the defending NCAA hockey-champion Dutchmen sweep a two-game nonconference series at Maine Oct. 17-18.

In the Oct. 17 game, Stevens stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn his 10th career shutout in the Dutchmen’s 3-0 victory. He was particularly strong in the third period, making 15 saves. He was named the game’s first star.

The next night, Stevens had a couple of firsts in the Dutchmen’s 5-2 win: He recorded his first career assist, and he also collected his first penalty.

Stevens got an assist on freshman center Ryan Scarfo’s goal at 7:29 of the second period to give the Dutchmen a 3-1 lead. That goal proved to be the game-winner.

Later in the period, during a scrum in front of his net, Stevens picked up a cross-checking minor.

Stevens, who made 27 save before being lifted midway through the third period, won his 41st career game to move into second place on Union’s all-time win list in the Division I era, surpassing Troy Grosenick.

Kris Mayotte holds the all-time record with 46 career wins from 2002 to 2006.
