The Erie Canal has been closed between Lock E-7 in Niskayuna and Lock E-17 in Little Falls in Herkimer County due to elevated water levels from the recent rain fall.

The Canal was closed at around 7:30 a.m. this morning, and will remain closed until conditions permit safe navigation.

“It’s all up to Mother Nature,” said Shane Mahar, Deputy Communications Director for the Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation. “It all depends on how quickly the waters recede. We anticipate re-opening relatively soon or in the near future.”
