Marathon bombing leaves people wary of unattended bags

Remember the case in which a man was arrested after leaving a backpack outside a store at Mohawk Commons? Here’s a Daily Gazette story from Sunday about how police respond to these cases of unattended bags. It’s especially an issue after the Boston Marathon bombings.

In the Mohawk Commons case, Niskayuna police investigated the incident and concluded that the man who left his bag should face charges. Joshua Usher, 21, was arrested and his bail set at $11,000. He remained in jail for 15 days until the charges were ultimately dropped. Niskayuna police Chief Daniel McManus said his officers responded to the scene, evaluated the circumstances and took appropriate actions to protect public safety.
